Introduction to Homeschool Activities

Homeschooling is a unique segment of the education market. Since the early ‘90s it has been growing at an extraordinary pace in both Canada and the United States. Here are some things to think about when offering homeschool activities:

  • Offer multiple activities whenever possible. Homeschoolers attend activities as a family so it is great when activities are available for several members of the family (0-99Y) in the same timeframe at the same place.
  • Consider giving a discount to families who register more than one person (a.k.a. Sibling Discount “SD”);
  • When scheduling multiple activities, always start unparented activities before parented activities and end parented activities before unparented activities. A parent can only be in one place at one time!
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays are the preferred days for Recreation Centres and other multi-activity venues.
  • Friday is the preferred day for scheduling Events.
  • Keep the minimum number of children required to run an activity around 6 and the maximum 20-25.
  • If an activity is parented you need to decide whether or not younger/older siblings are welcome to attend with parent.
  • consider building a homeschool page on to your website and purchasing a web link ad on the Homeschooler’s Guide website. Homeschoolers will have direct access to expanded information about your programs, events and registration information.
